History

Mastery and tradition in stone transformation
JULIPEDRA has its origins in a family inheritance dating back to 1955, rooted in the expertise of those who have mastered the art of transforming stone. What began as a traditional workshop evolved, in 1981, into a robust industrial unit focused on meeting the highest quality standards in the market.

Today, the business stands out for the vertical integration of the entire process: from extraction at its own quarries, which began in 2008, to the processing and export of bespoke solutions to more than 40 countries. With around 90% of production destined for the global market, its sound management practices and financial stability are attested to by its ‘PME Líder’ and ‘PME Excelência’ status, which it has achieved consecutively since 2009.

Strategic location and industrial capacity
JULIPEDRA's industrial unit is located in the centre of the country, in the heart of the Estremenho Limestone Massif, from where all the raw material originates. With a total area of 40,000m², of which 10,000m² is covered area, the facility has the ideal conditions for the sustainable production of ornamental stone.

Technology and production efficiency
The operation is based on methods that ensure above-average competitiveness gains, combining accumulated experience with cutting-edge technologies to minimise waste. The modern production lines, in both cutting and finishing, guarantee large-scale supply with rigorous quality control. The flexibility of means and processes allows for an agile and effective response to projects of small, medium or large scale.

Sustainable management and circular economy
Knowledge accumulated over decades is reflected in the ability to fully forecast, schedule and manage production. With the aim of ensuring the complete sustainability of the production cycle, the industrial facility is equipped with advanced systems for the management and reuse of both liquid and solid waste. The complete repurposing of surplus reinforces the commitment to conscious production with a low environmental impact.

Extraction and rigor in the origin
High-quality limestones are extracted from JULIPEDRA's quarries and subjected to a rigorous selection and classification process. This initial stage is essential to ensure that only the best blocks enter the production cycle, maintaining the standards of excellence that define the company.

Technical feasibility and compliance
The thorough classification of materials, based on quality assessment, raw material availability and detailed technical characterisation, makes it possible to guarantee a viable solution suited to the specific requirements of each project. This method ensures an exact match between the natural properties of the stone and the architectural and structural demands of each work.

Efficiency and responsiveness
The use of technologically advanced extraction processes makes it possible to maintain a high production capacity. This operational efficiency guarantees an agile and timely response, even in the face of the most demanding, large-scale challenges, ensuring continuity and reliability of supply. Extraction management is planned on the basis of the project portfolio, ensuring that production at each quarry meets the factory's needs in terms of quality, quantity and deadlines, aligned with the schedule of each construction project.

Vale da Onia

Located in Alcobaça, within the prestigious Moleanos limestone belt, the Vale da Onia quarry is one of JULIPEDRA's strategic units for the extraction of light-coloured, highly consistent ornamental limestone.

With an area of approximately 53,000 m², this quarry results from the integration of contiguous extraction areas, allowing for an optimised operation and a greater capacity for sustained production.

Here, light cream-toned material is quarried and selected, valued for its uniformity, elegance and adaptability to different architectural contexts, from contemporary projects to more classical interventions.

Quarrying is carried out in open-air sites, developed along the hillside following the sedimentary lamination of the strata, preserving the integrity of the stone with an impact on the utilisation of the rock mass. This approach allows us to respond flexibly to different market needs, whether for large-scale projects or more personalised solutions.

With an annual production in the region of 6,000 m³ of blocks, the quarry guarantees a stable and reliable supply, reinforcing JULIPEDRA's capacity to ensure continuity of supply to its international clients.

Covinha

Located in the parish of Alcanede, in the municipality of Santarém, in the heart of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, the Covinha quarry is part of the renowned Cabeça Veada extraction centre, one of the main areas for ornamental limestone production in Portugal.

Extraction is carried out in open-cast quarries, in benches, using cutting technologies such as diamond wire, allowing the recovery of large-sized, high-quality blocks, suitable for the demands of the most rigorous markets.

With an extraction area exceeding 30,000 m², the quarry boasts large reserves, guaranteeing sustainable long-term extraction and a high production capacity.

Combining material quality, production capacity and a commitment to sustainable practices and landscape restoration, Covinha positions itself as a benchmark unit in the production of Portuguese limestone for international markets.

Valongo

Moca Creme

Located in Alcanede, Santarém, within the Pé da Pedreira extraction hub, the quarry is part of one of the most significant ornamental limestone production areas in Portugal.

Com uma área aproximada de 35.000 m² e reservas suficientes para assegurar uma capacidade de produção contínua e altamente fiável, respondendo com consistência a projetos de média e grande dimensão.

The extracted material, Moca Creme, is recognised for its versatility and international demand, being widely used in architecture, ranging from exterior cladding to interior spaces of high aesthetic standard.

The exploitation is carried out with modern precision cutting technologies, ensuring efficiency, quality and resource optimisation.
